Welcome to the 40 club! In some ways it's better (attitude) and some others (body) goin' Downhill on a fast sled! lol
many bday memories. One that just popped in my mind was in the early days of courting my husband. He took me all over the city to find a nice outfit for me to wear. Not an easy task, but he was determined.
This year, he planned a 40th surprise, but left too many clues, so I figured it out. But much appreciated, none the less.
Thanks for sharing with us on your birthday. hope it is fun!

WOW, Silke......how fun is this you are giving away gifts on your birthday. I have been very blessed in my life in many ways. My friends and family know that I don't like to make a big fuss over my birthday.... so I was very shocked when a couple of years ago, my husband put up a huge banner in the kitchen the morning of my birthday that said "Happy Birthday"....I was so surprised because I like to kinda skip over my birthday. I hope your day is great. hugs, Teresa*~*

When I turned 40 my 15 yr. old son was diagnosed with Hodkins Lymphoma. They gave him 6 months to live.
At the time I was teaching in a Christian pre- School in Dallas.
I was not Stamping at time.
The parents, teachers & school board members pitched in to help make our lives somewhat normal.
Women took my place in the classroom & gave me the money earned. Prayer groups formed.

2 weeks later I was rushed to the hospital for an emergency hysterectomy. I could not get my son to his chemo & radiation therapy. The Cancer Society came every day to take him to therapy.
The High School he attended made provisions for him to be tutored.
After 6 months of chemo & radiation he became cancer-free.

We were told that he'd never have children.

He married and 3 years later he had a healthy son...2 years after that he had a son born with Austism`.
No...it hasn't been easy...but at this point in time everyone is doing well amd we just continue to pray for God's mercy.

Happy 40th! When I turned 40, my husband took me to my favorite restuarant and he had arranged for all of the special people in my life to be there---the only surprise party I have ever had and it was so much fun. I also have an October birthday (15th).

When I turned 40, my 3 friends and I planned a girls' spa weekend in Toronto, CA (we live in Buffalo, NY only 1.5 hours away). We all met at my house cause I was going to drive my mini van to house all our "stuff". When I went outside, there was a LIMOUSINE waiting at the foot of my driveway! That was my gift...a ride to and from Toronto in a limo! It was the first time I had ever been in one, too! It was an awesome surprise! I hope you have a great 40th birthday, Silke!

GREAT BLOG CANDY! yippeee!
For my story, when I turned 18, my BF at the time threw me a surprise party. To know someone would go through that trouble of calling people they don't even know to come together for my benefit was a real declaration of love.
Happy BD!

Happy birthday!
The nicest gesture someone has done for me on my birthday - wow, that's a toughie. I've been so blessed with many loving people in my life that it's hard to pick just one thing. I think I would say that it would be my DH taking two days to make my favourite cake from scratch. This isn't as easy as it sounds - it's an old family recipe and he didn't know where to find it, except in my scrapbook where I'd done a page on it. Unfortunately, I'd missed an ingredient so he had to call my mother long-distance to get it. And this is a tricky recipe, you have to make caramel first, and it's a chiffon cake so lots of separating eggs and whipping and folding. What a guy!

Happiest of birthdays to you!! A couple of years ago my boss gave me a P3 (rolling paper tote)!! Who knew he was actually listening when I was talking with my co-workers and telling them that the P3 was the one thing I was wishing for the most!! - Tampastampa@verizon.net

Happy Birthday to you!!! I guess the best birthday was my 20th, all of my co-workers got together for a great night out! They all went in together and got me a gift card to an electronic store and it was enough for me to get a 32" tv. I think I cried because that was so extravagant:)

I turn 30 next month and I suspect I am going to have a great time with some people I love!

Happy Birthday! My nicest b-day memory is the surprise b-day party my Dad did for me when I was 18. He did all the planning, calling, setting up and getting the food by himself. He made it an awesome day for me! It a great memory now that he's passed away.

When I turned 17, my DH (boyfriend at the time) filled my room w/ balloons.....ok....well, he had my sister do it while I was at school since he wasn't allowed in my room, but it was his idea and I loved it!! AND we are still together 24 years later!!

Happy early birthday! Hope you have a wonderful day. I have 2 stories (sorry!). Several years ago, I was newly divorced and living on my own. I'm not a big cook so my best friend compiled a bunch of her favourite recipes and gave them to me (so I wouldn't starve!). Also, I'm a huge Harry Potter fan and one year the book was released on my birthday. My new (and current) DH had the book delivered to the house as a surprise. I spent the whole day reading it!
Thanks for the opportunity!

Happy Birthday to you!
The nicest thing I can remember was by my sweet daughter. I had been staying with her for a few days prior to my 50th birthday. She said we were going to Seattle for a "girls" day together. After a fun afternoon we stopped for a drink and suddenly there were our husbands! Surpise!! We were all staying at the "W" for the night and going to a special dinner show. She even ensured that my special dietary restrictions were taken care of. Daughters are wonderful! A memorable milestone!
I hope your day is equally as great!

First off HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!
The greatest birthday for me was a couple of years ago my 16 year old son bought me with his own hard earned money a beautiful double weeping cherry tree that he knew I wanted. It was the greatest to see him do something like that from the heart, I have to admit I cried. He is a wonderful young man. Thank you for the chance to win, and I hope you have a fabulous day.

Hi Silke! Happiest of happy birthdays to you! My story? When I was in highschool I had a bunch of friends literally kidnap me on my brithday and take me away to a cabin for the weekend. When I got there, all my friends were there with my brother and his friends as well. It was one of the best weekends of my life! I'm 34 now and still can't believe that was almost 16 years ago. In my head, I'm still 18! Thanks for the chance at some wicked blog candy! You rule!

Take care,

The best and nicest gesture I had on my birthday was about 11 years ago when my then boyfriend and I were in Paris, France and we went out to the Hard Rock Cafe for my birthday supper. Then, he proposed to me and then we went on a boat ride on the Seinne River at midnight with the lights of Paris all around us. It was amazing!

Happy, happy birthday, Silke!

The nicest thing anyone ever did for me on my birthday was when I turned twenty. My hubby bought our first house and tied a big red ribbon around the front door. When we walked in, he had a cake on a make-shift table in the dining room. He had also cooked my dinner and had it waiting for me....what a man, and what a memory. Thanks for making me think about that again...I am so blessed.

Thanks for the opportunity to win some awesome candy! Hope your day is a wonderful one!

My friend from grade school and I both have October birthdays. She is single no kids and I am married with three. For the past twenty years we have a birthday "date" in the middle of the month and go out to dinner and catch up on what is going on in each others lives.

Happy Birthday!!!

Happy Birthday Silke!!! You are very soon to be an awesome 40, which is a wonderful age to be! Just remember, every day we're here is a holiday and every meal is a feast!!

The loveliest thing that happens on my birthday is that my DH makes me the dinner of my choice...and since he is a chef, mmmmm! It is wonderful! And he is such a sweetheart!

Hope you have your best birthday yet!!

I've had a lot of bdays so that's a tough one. Basically just being with family and friends has been the best. Expecially when carrot cake is served!!! Hope you have a wonderful celebration:)

Happy Birthday Silke!

My best Birthday was also my worst (in a way). A week before my 33rd Birthday my 14 year old son was diagnosed with Cancer. I was working at a Christian School at the time. Of course I had to ask for a leave of absence to take care of my son and whatever treatment they decided upon for him.
During my fist week of absence, little did I know that the teachers & parents of my students were planning a wonderful Birthday gift for me & my family.

The morning of my birthday the doorbell rang and there stood 50 women...teachers, friends & parents. They were armed with food and presented us with a collection of $500.00 to help with expenses. Not only that each of the parents of my students volunteered a week of their time to fill in for me and the principal was then able to have me continue to get a paycheck. They also gave me a schedule of meals we would receive. Every other day a hot meal was delivered to the house.
Although I spent much time at the hospital, I could take a portion of these meals to eat there eliminating the cost of cafeteria food.

The best part is after being told my son had 6 months to live...he began responding to the chemo & radition, He had surgery several times and the doctors noticed his rapid improvement.
My son is now 37 and has been cancer free. He is happily married and has 2 wonderful boys...my grandsons.
There's no doubt in my mind that prayer made the difference.

Have a great Birthday Silke....and 40...my, that's still young!

Congrats on the big 4-0! WHen I was in my 20s, the folks that I worked with took me out for lunch at a kind of fancy-schmancy restaurant. Right in the middle of lunch a gorilla walked into the restaurant carrying a huge bunch of balloons and a boom box. He went around from table to table, hugging the well-to-do women lunching, then arrived at our table and proceeded to sing and dance for about 20 minutes!

Happy Birthday :) Last month for my 36th my DH kept the kids busy while I took a 3 hour nap, went and got me a slice of 7 layer chocolate cake for dessert, made the kids lunch and dinners, got me McAlister's for lunch and gave me a sweet little bag of goodies (cool pens, milk duds, good & plentys, and an adorable little notebook) so I would have a gift to open since he sent me to see Mamma Mia (on stage) with my girlfriends 2 weeks prior to my birthday and had bought tickets to take me to Wicked 2 weeks after. What fun!!! Hope you have an awesome one too :)

My friends are the best!!! This year my hubby was a big fuddy-duddy when it came to celebrating my bday. But without knowing what was going on at home I had one friend that gave me a hand-made box full of "cards". Each had an inspirational message on the front and held a gift card to one of my favorite stores or resturatants on the inside. I kept the one that said "I am... Worthy" in which my friends wrote a personal note that still makes me smile and cry all at the same time. I kept them in their box until I used them, smiling, knowing I am loved. She really made my birthday, over and over again (I still have money left on several of the gift cards).

Happy Birthday! All birthdays are great but a few years ago my husband was away and so it was only me and the kids. I don't often get flowers, so while he was away I celebrated my birthday. Sometime that day the door bell rings and when I opened the door there was a delivery guy standing there with flowers. Oh my heart sank with joy. Flowers! My favorite flower is carnations and thats what they were...

For my birthday this year my husband surprisd me with getting a Wii. I turned 27 and I know it sounds silly to get a game system as an adult. But sometimes it's just really fun to get together with friends and play. He totally surprised me with it and that made it an even better gift. =)

...my most memorable birthday was the year Dan proposed. He woke me up and said he was going to make me breakfast, we went out on the front porch, and when he brought me my plate of eggs there was also a *little* gift-wrapped box on the plate. :)

Happy Birthday! Enjoy the moment! I totally understand about where has the time gone as I turned 60 this year! My family gave me suprise party and all of my special friends attended. My daughter stood up and told everyone what a star Mom I was and presented me with a diamond star necklace that was from my three children. Then each one of my frineds stood up and told a special moment about me. Funny thing, by the time everyone finished, there were tears being shed! What a wonderful way to end the day!
I wish you many more!
