Happy Birthday! 40 is GREAT! The nicest thing anyone has ever done on my birthday...my DH makes me a homemade cake OF MY CHOICE completely from scratch every year. He's a fabulous chef and I pick something different every year so he has fun experimenting. It occasionally goes awry, like last year's concrete caramel icing, LOL, but mostly they are totally scrumptious cakes.

It just so happened that the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me was on MY 40th birthday. My husband (boyfriend at the time)threw me a surprise birthday party which I had never had before. It was a small group of friends and we had the best time. It's a birthday I will never forget!

Happy Birthday to you! You're going to love the 40's. My husband made me a rainbow cake with different layers that alternated with dfferent flavors of icing and it was fabulous. He is a wonderful cook and baker. He also surprised me for my 40th with a party - I had no idea because he took me to Disney for my birthday and when I can home he had planned this big party for me along with the help of my best friends. Oh and my birthday is in December. I hope you have a great birthday. I always look forward to your post and seeing your beautiful creations. :)

OMG - Silke! Happy Birthday, girl! The nicest thing anyone did for me on my birthday was my last birthday, my 27th. It was Sept. 25 of this year and my dad bought me a new house! :) Actually, he helped me buy it, but still...that's my dad! LOVE HIM!

Happy Birthday!

The nicest thing anyone did for me on my birthday was from a friend of mine. This year I turned 30, and had always wanted to do so on a beach. My parents had planned to take me to Dominican but my mom got sick and ended up in ICU and so we had to cancel. She was out of the hospital for my bday. I live in Ontario and a friend of mine flew us to Dallas, where we picked up a vehicle and he drove me to Galveston so I'd wake up on a beach! And he also called ahead of time and asked them to turn the heat up (I'm always cold and it was January).

Sorry it was such a long story. Happy memories though. And my mom has made a complete recovery.

Happy Birthday! The nicest thing that was ever done for my birthday was the special guy in my life showed up with roses from his garden and brought dinner which he cooked himself (he's a great cook, so it was delicious).

The nicest thing for my birthday was 2 weeks ago for my 55th. A very special person took me to the North Shore for 3 fabulous days!! We took tours, hiked, stopped to take pictures and even had time to shop. He had everything planned perfectly!!

My dh threw me a surprise party. I thought we were just going out for dinner, but was surprised to find the rest of the family and some friends as well.

Happy Birthday! 40 is not that bad. The nicest birthday gesture was my 40th. My husband planned a huge "Over the Hill" party and pulled it off with a bang. The highlight was that he flew across the country a dear friend that I hadn't seen in over 10 years. After I had come into the house and seen all my friends, she had slipped around to the front and rang the doorbell. I was so surprised!! It was a fabulous birthday.

Happy Birthday! It sounds like great things are in store for you from your family. :-) I have loved being in my 40s! I hope you do, too! My sweet husband always makes me a wonderful cheesecake (my favorite) for my birthday, and takes me out for a "date."

A very Happy Birthday to you! I love your blog and visit every post! When I turned 40, I was skiing with my family and another family in Vermont and when we returned home, much to my surprise there were black balloons and streamers everywhere at my house! In the trees, tied to the porch, on the door, etc. My friend had gathered some other friends up and put them out so that when I got home I'd have a "black" reception! I loved it and was touched at her thoughtfulness. I think surprises are always so appreciated! I hope you find a surprise or two this year! Hugs, Jackie W.

First of all, Happy Birthday. I absolutely love your blog and visit daily. THanks for your wonderful works of art and for offering some Birthday Blog Candy.
My last birthday was my best birthday ever. My BGF Deb fanagled a surprise for me with my husband. She showed up with a handmade lopsided flower shaped birthday cake, a sweet card and ice cream. I know it sounds simple, but no one has ever done that for me before and I felt truly loved.

Happy Birthday!!!!!

On my last birthday my husband got me the dreamiest cake. It was cookies and cream on the inside topped with tons of whipped frosting and fresh strawberries on top dipped in strawberry sauce. The strawberries were bedded in the frosting and cookie crumbs. It was SUPER yummy!!!! He even put candles in the cake and him and the kids sang to me and I blew out the candles. I felt like a kid all over again. He just has a way of always making me feel so loved. :)

Happy birthday to one of my favorite bloggers! You are an inspiration to so many!

My most amazing birthday was when I was turning 22. My best friend rented a limo and had us chauffeured all over our little college town to visit all our haunts. At each stop, there was someone waiting with part of a poem he'd written about us. The last stop was for a performance of the Bolshoi ballet dancing the Nutcracker. It was a completely amazing night!

Happy Birthday to you! The nicest thing somebody has done for my birthday.....my husband always let's me do whatever I want to do and that is always a special treat. I can make him go to garage sales and to scrapbook stores with me. I love it and I don't think he knows just how much....

This isn't the nicest, but it's the cutest. My 3 1/2 year old niece, who I absolutely adore... came over to my house on my birthday a few weeks ago carrying my birthday present. She said (in the sweetest little voice) "here auntie Kelly...we got you a scarecrow". So cute:)

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday girl!!! I can't wait to read what your girls have planned with you.

The nicest thing I've had done for me on my birthday was a little over 9 years ago when I was in the hospital on bedrest after going in to premature labor 13 weeks early with my son. Since I couldn't get out of bed for a party, the party came to me. My friends all joined me in my hospital room with cake, flowers, balloons and a ton of fun (so much they all got kicked out as I was too excited and started having more contractions).

It was nice to have that many friends that cared enough to come visit me and hang out with me. It meant a lot as I was a bit down being in bed 24/7 with nothing but the t.v./books.

Have a great day!

Well, I have a terrible memory so...I'll have to go with this year! My husband bought me a DSLR and then I got to go to Vancouver with him on his business trip! We went whale watching which was the ONE thing I really wanted to do! We were even blessed to get some great pictures and we had a WONDERFUL week together!!

Happy, happy birthday!!! You will have a great day and it will be memorable in a wonderful way. For one of my birthdays my husband rented a boat and we cruised around in the warm Florida waters. After a great day on the water we went to a resturant on the water and had one of the best meals we had ever had while watching an amazing sunset. It is a birthday I will never forget. Have a great birthday and always remember to embrace the little things.

Okay, kinda sad right now. I am reading all the comments, and most are awesome. Unfortunately, I have not had a great gesture for my birthday. Not even a cake... lol. I have gotten nice presents, though.

Thanks for the opportunity to win this blog candy!

Happy Birthday - mine is coming up on Sunday!! I guess the nicest thing that's been done for me on my bday was a few years ago when I turned 30 and wanted to "hide" - my husband took me to Hawaii and we went swimming with the dolphins.

Happy big 4-0!I hope you have a fabulous day.

The nicest gesture anyone has done for my birthday began with breakfast in bed and then a "daddy day" giving me the day off.

Thanks for the great blog candy opportunity.

For my 40th birthday last year, my dad came to spend the weekend with me and helped me make a really cool wall-mounted holder for my punches. It was so much fun making something together. Happy Happy Birthday!

My BD is in August and the August flower is the gladiolus. While still living at home, my Dad would pick a bunch of gladioli and arrange them in a vase and give them to me every year on my BD.
When I turned 19 I was living on my own in the city of Toronto, ON Canada and working at Sick Kids Hospital. When I got home from work that day, I was feeling sad as I missed my family but most of all, I missed my flowers from my Dad. At around 7:30 p.m., there was a knock on my door and there was my eldest brother and my parents. Mom gave me a gift and Dad gave me an arrangement of glads complete with a vase to put them in. Mom also brought a small cake and even brought candles. I made some coffee and we had a nice evening together. That had to be the nicest thing anyone had ever done for me on my birthday as my parents travelled for 1 1/2 hours to get to my place in the city.

Every birthday my family makes me feel special. But the first birthday I had after we moved away from my parents, my Mom and Dad came out to visit and my Mom brought me a Le Cruset dutch oven. She knew I had been looking for one and was having a hard time finding the right size (we live in a small city). She brought one for me and I just used it for dinner again tonight. I always think of their kindness and generosity when I see it.

I love that you want to celebrate your birthday by giving us the chance to win some treats. My favourite birthday ever was the year some of my best girlfriends surprised me with a day of ocean kayaking around Deep Cove in North Vancouver, BC. They packed a picnic, with wine and cheese and even blindfolded me until while we drove there so I wouldn't figure it out. It was so much fun and such a kind, kind gesture.

Happy Birthday to you!

Wishing you a very Happy Birthday. Hope you have a great week of celebrating. WOW,that is awesome blog candy, would love to win it. The nicest thing anyone has done for my birthday was a surprise party for my last birthday in December. My family surprised me with a party when we came home from church. My sister was there from out of town. I really was expecting it and it was great. Thanks for a chance to win.

Happy Birthday, Silke! Sounds like the girls are going to make your birthday a really fun and memorable one. When I turned 40, a neighbor owned a flower shop across the street from us. On their big sign in front of the shop, he put, "Cindy's 40..Honk if you like older women". Well, there was honking all day long and I couldn't figure out what was going on, until my children told me. Have a Very Happy Birthday!! Hugs, Cindy

Happy Birthday, Silke! I'm drooling looking at all those goodies! I think the most practical and appreciated gift came from my husband a few years ago when he got me an Astrostart for my vehicle! I commute to my school and live in MN so I was very pleased to be able to have a nice warm car when it was well below zero!
The most fun birthday was my 40th when my girlfriends somehow got into the school and decorated my room all in black right down to the basket of Oreos on my desk. A mom made a cake and a friend who happened to also be a paraprofessional had my class make a book for me! Very special memories! Have a wonderful day!

You'll have some company on the 4th floor (that's what my bestest gf calls 40-somethings) soon. I turn 40 in January and I'm quite looking forward to it.

The nicest thing anyone ever did for me was throw me a party. I know that sounds quite ordinary because people get parties for their birthdays all of the time, but I share a birthday with my grandfather. Up until he passed away two years ago, my birthday was really all about him. Of course they threw my name on the cake every year, but the party was always really for my grandfather.

Well for my 36th birthday, after making some life altering decisions (one of which was ending my marriage), my bestest girlfriend threw me a party with about 5o of our female friends. It was an all girls Mardi Gras party and that had to be the best birthday I've had to date. All I had to do is show up and have fun and boy, did I ever have fun.

You have a great birthday and very many more to come!

One of the nicest things that happened to me on my birthday (St. Patrick's day!) was when a few parents in my class (I taught Gr. 1 at the time) surprised me with the class singing "You are my sunshine" and then each student gave me a green carnation. Then we had cake and green Kool Aid. It was so sweet, it made me cry!
Happy, joyful birthday!!

Happy Birthday to you. I hope your birthday is filled with joy and fun with your family. And it sounds like you will get that from your kids.

I also turned 40 at the beginning of the year. Both my kids woke up and came to my room to give me a big hug. They couldn't wait to wish me a happy birthday. Of course we had cake and all, but I thought that was really sweet of them.

It's very generous of you to give away such blog candy. Thank you.

Happy Birthday to You, and I know you will have many more and you will enjoy being in the 40's.
My best birthday every was spending it with my dad on our way to California to visit my sister, it was his 50th birthday and it was just me and him on the road to CA. Then when I had my 50th birthday, I thought of our trip to CA and within hours my dad was pulling in my driveway. He told me that he wanted to spend my 50th birthday with me since I spend his 50th birthday with him. He is 30 years older than me and was still able to drive 2 hours to see me. That was the most enjoyable birthday ever. Now he is gone and the memories mean so much to me.

Thanks for the chance to win.

Oh Happy Happy to you!!

An old boyfriend who never really splurged on ANYTHING, except for himself, surprised me with a vintagey perfume bottle set that I had dreaming about. It was way beyond anything I could afford, and I didn't even give it much thought knowing that it was out of my league. Lo and behold, on my birthday, the most elegantly wrapped gift revealed my special little bottles. I still treasure them because they're so pretty -- NOT because they came from him! LOL

WOWeee! Happy Birthday Silke! I turned 40 in June, so we are both 1968 -graduate from high school in '86!! 40 isn't so bad. Kinda came and went for me. Hummm... the nicest thing? I have had nice "off birthday" things, but on the birthday... this is a toughie. I really don't make much a fuss of birthdays. But, on my 30th, my friend thru me a huge party at her house and just about everyone I knew came -her parties are ledgendary. That was a BLAST! This year my DH helped my boys (4yo and 3yo) make me cards -that was super sweet. So, it's a tie!!

Amazing lot of goodies you are giving away there girlie! Fit for a queen. Have a great b-day! Hugs, michelle

Happy Birthday! I think the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me on my birthday was 2 years ago. I had to stop working b/c of health issues...wasn't able to get out of the house much...feeling pretty down. None of my work "friends" contacted me to tell me happy BD, but the lady who I was closest friends with went out of her normal way home so that she could come by and visit with me for a few minutes. She brought me a couple of little gifts, which was sweet, but the best thing was that she came to see me. That might not sound like much, but at that time of my life it was a MAJOR boost.

the sweetest thing for me was when I turned 30. Hubby was deployed to Africa for 4 months. He planned ahead to have my kids make dinner for me, and have flowers delivered to work for me. Happy 40th Birthday! Thanks for sharing this blog candy too - it looks great!

The best gesture was just this past year. Every year for our birthdays, my family always goes out for a family dinner to the restaurant of the birthday persons choosing. This year was the first birthday I have had since moving out of my parents house - and to top it off, I moved to a city a couple hours away from them. I was kind of depressed about how different my birthday would be, but then my family (parents and siblings and their parents) all came down to stay here overnight! I felt so spoiled that they all took the time to come down and keep the tradition going. Meant a lot since now none of us kids live with Mom and Dad!

Happy 40th! Have fun celebrating with your girls.

The sweetest gesture was when I turned 29. My hubby purchased a cake and balloons and delivered them as a surprise to the school that I work at. As soon as I walked into the staff room I was showered with so much love from him and my co-workers.

Happy Birthday, Silke! Enjoy your day whatever it may bring!

I would have to say that the best gift I ever received was when I turned 30. My first son was only 7 months old and I had a ton of extra baby weight still on me. I was not feeling good about myself at all. My wonderful DH (who is a very talented musician) recorded a song for me "You Are So Beautiful to Me" by Joe Cocker. It made me cry, I felt so loved. Still makes me misty to think about it.

Thanks for the chance for the awesome blog candy. Have a blessed day!

You see, besides paper crafting I LOVE needlepoint (his closet floor can attest to that - it's where I have my boxes of unfinished projects stored!).

Happy 40th!
My 50th was the best ever birthday. My husband (this was so unlike him) decided to throw me a surprise party. He had a lot of help from two of my closest friends. I am not easily surprised--I usually know when something is up. My daughter was in from out of town the weekend before my BD and we went out to dinner. When we got back home and I walked in the door I see stuff on the floor and am saying what the heck is that and all of the sudden I hear a lot of noise. I walk in to a room full of friends and neighbors with little clappers going and lots of Happy Birthdays being called out. I just stand there laughing and crying for a few minutes. I was totally surprised! (The stuff on the floor--confetti with the number 50 on it that was made by a friend and her daughters. It was everywhere in the house. I found some even 3 years later!)

My husband took me on a trip to Vegas for my birthday...but if that wasn't enough, he had secretly arranged for two good friends, who I hadn't seen in a long time, to meet us there. My DH and I were sitting in a casino...resting our feet, when up walked my two friends. I screamed with delight, and of course everyone looked at me like I had won a jackpot...and in fact I had...a fabulous husband and two good friends to help me celebrate. My husband went to a lot of trouble to make my Vegas birthday one that I'll always remember and cherish!

Happy Birthday!!!

The nicest thing anyone has ever done for my birthday was a couple of years ago when my friend tracy made me dinner. This was no ordinary dinner because he is a meatitarian and i am a vegitarian. To impress me because he liked me he clipped a recipe for vegetarian stuffed shells and made them for me. They were horrible but i was impressed that he went through so much effort to impress me and had been so thoughtful in his dinner selection. Five years later we are engaged and happily living together and his cooking has since improved.

Happy Birthday - Wow, what a giveaway....I hope you have a great birthday...I will be celebrating 50 soon, where did the time go? Now my husband always buys me a huge bouquet of flowers for my birthday...

Happy Birthday Silke! This is the first time I stumbled across your blog, it's wonderful!

Anyway, my lovely workaholic husband makes sure to take my birthday off work and we get to spend the whole day as a family (we have 2 boys ages 3 years and 18 months) doing whatever I want. Usually that starts with breakfast (my favorite meal of the day) and then whatever I want to do. He's even been known to go to a scrapbook store with me!

His time is worth soooo much more than any material thing he could buy!

One of the nicest things that my husband did for me on my birthday one year was send me to Vegas to have fun, destress and hang with my sister. When I got to the hotel, there was a gift basket waiting for me.

Happy Fortieth Birthday!! I will be there too in a few years and hope to do something special. One of the nicest things that my mom did for my birthday happened when I turned 16. We had just moved to a new province and I didn't feel comfortable (I was very shy back then) inviting new friends over yet (my birthday is in September)so my mom did it for me as a surprise. Half a dozen new friends showed up at my door. Twenty years later I still remember it.
By the way, I love your blog and style. Keep up the awesome work!! I check it out every day.

The nicest thing anyone did for me on my birthday was my three daughters. For my husband's and my 60th birthday they rented a house in Gatlinburg and set up an entire weekend for the entire family, food and all. Food is usually my department. We go to all UT football games with my oldest daughter so they got us there with a story about how someone they knew wasn't using their house and had offered it to us at no charge for the weekend. I should have been suspicious but thought nothing of it. When we arrived they were all there with the house decorated and all the food and drink waiting for us. I was trully surprised. It was a great fall weekend hanging out with the family.

Wishing you a Happy 40th Birthday week! I'm only a year or so ahead of you. All the posts here are so sweet. There are some super nice people out there and much loved stampers. The nicest thing done for my birthday was a gift from my DH. He sent me and my BFF to Chicago for my birthday. That was such a treat and I just love him for his thoughtfulness. Thanks for posting this. We're all winners just from these stories.

The best thing was when my husband took me to Savannah, Georgia on vacation for my birthday. We took a sleeper car on AMTRAK from NJ and it was the best vacation I ever had. We stayed at a beautiful little bed and breakfast. I love that city and hope to go back someday. Hope you have a great birthday!!!

The nicest thing that was ever done for my birthday was a trip to Gatlinburg, TN and $400 to go shopping in the outlet stores. We rented a cabin and our whole extended family joined us for a long weekend. It was fabulous and a time I will never forget. I do love the blog candy, and Happy Birthday to you!!!

Happy Birthday! 40 was actually my hardest birthday ever, but now, looking back on it--it wasn't so bad after all! I hope you have a great day!

My best birthday ever? When everyone--and I mean everyone--got together. We had a bbq supper, everyone cooked their own food, and we ate, laughed, and laughed and ate some more! Great memory!

A Happy Happy Birthday to you! I've had so many nice things done for me for my birthday that it's really hard to pick the absolute nicest! My husband and kids are always wonderful to me on my special day. But one of my very special memories though is my 10th birthday. We didn't have much when I was growing up (which I never realized until I was older because my Mom and grandparents took such good care of us), and my Mom knew I always wanted a surprise party. She couldn't afford to throw me one with all of my friends, so she got the family over to the house and they all surprised me! I didn't ever tell her that I knew what she was doing...she's such a Sweetheart!

Happy soon to be birthday, I read your blog everyday and enjoy it very much. On my 30th birthday my boyfriend (now husband) sent me a formal invitation to a private birthday gathering. Just him dressed in his nicest suit, the house was all decorated, he made me a fantastic dinner and giant fortune cookies for dessert. Inside each cookie was a special saying. It was magical. Hope your birthday is as special.

Happy 40th birthday to you! The sweetest gesture that anyone has ever done on my birthday was by my husband this year. When I was younger my mom always baked a red velvet cake for my birthday and so this year my husband went to a fabulous cupcake shop in Beverly Hills (about 20mins away) and bought me red velvet cupcakes. They were so yummy, but not as delicious as the cake my mother use to make.

Happy Birthday to you! One of my nicest birthdays was as a teenager. My bff came and covered my lawn with hearts taped onto popsicle sticks and on each heart she wrote something she liked about me. Then she kidnapped me and took me to Taco Bell for breakfast (I loved TB for breakfast back then). She made a tiara and banner for me and I had to carry around a bunch of balloons for the day. I felt very loved to have all that attention. So fun!

Well, let's see...there is a make your own purse place in downtown Chicago that I had always admired. So, for my 30th a few years ago, my husband organized a party for me and 6 of my friends to go down and design our own purses. He even paid for all my girlfriend's bags!!! I felt like the luckiest girl in the world that my husband who has NO idea why we are obsessed with purses, shoes, STAMPS LOL!, etc. would do this for me. It was so special...and SO much fuN! It felt like a grown-up "kid" party :)

WOW. Lets see my husband drove an hour to where I work and set up a video camera in my car. He taped an envelope with a note in it and a room key for a hotel. The instructions told me to go to a certain hotel and relax and take a bath. When I got to the room the bath was filled and there was a bottle of wine opened and flowers. He was no where to be found. He showed up about an hour later to take me out to dinner. He also arranged for someone to keep our 2 kids for the night. He was very sweet and I still remember all that he went through to make my birthday special.

Happy 40th! Mine's coming next summer... where does the time go? I LOVE your work and am excited to be able to play for blog candy! My most memorable birthday is my most recent. I know it sounds silly, but I wouldn't spend the money on a mop system by Norwex that I really wanted and I went and bought something kinda similar at a local store. I happened to stop by my BFFs right after and mentioned to her that I bought it and she told me to take it back and she proceeded to hand me the mop I really wanted - as a birthday gift. LOL She thought it was the dorky-est gift ever and she was actually embarrased to give it to me, but I was so thrilled. I got what I wanted and I am still very appreciative! Yes, I'm a dork! LOL I hope you got what you wanted. :o)

Birthday Wishes to you!!!! My fondest B-day memory is not really a kind thing or gesture that someone did. I found out I was pregnant with my son on my 31st B-day. The absolute bestest birthday EVER for me was the year my friends got together and threw a surprise party for me at the local stamp store! My best friend twisted my arm (yeah, right) to go stamp shopping with her, but when we got to the store the parking lot was packed -- with cars that looked strangely familiar to me. I was greeted by over a dozen of my closest friends, stampers and non-stampers, with confetti and flowers and cake and, well, the works. The best part was that I got to show some of my non-stamping friends how to stamp, and everyone got to make some cards for themselves. It was AWESOME!

Speaking of awesome, this is the best blog candy I've ever seen! I have my toes crossed (I need my fingers for stamping) that I'm the lucky winner. Congrats on having such a successful blog. And, of course, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

AHHHHH!) when he told me "Mommy - I love you no matter how old you get and how many birthdays you'll have - I'll only have one special mommy like you - and you're my bestest..." Now if that doesn't bring a tear to your eye... That was truly the best gift ever - he was so sincere and he is truly my bestest!!! Hope your day is just as special!!!

I turned 30 while living overseas, no friends or family around (only my hubbie and my 2 little wee men). So when we returned to Canada four months later, my sister-in-law threw a surprise 30th birthday party for me with a bunch of church friends. It was a jammie party and they made me dress us in an old-fashioned white nightie...memories!!!

While this story doesn't sound very exciting, you have to understand how much I *adore* dill pickles. It's an addiction. (Yes, that sounds a bit odd.) Well, my good friend knew that I liked a certain type of pickle that is served at the Stage Door Deli at Caesar's Palace in Vegas. Without me knowing, she called the restaurant up, found out who the supplier was, and specially ordered me some of those pickles from the supplier! Complete with dry ice. Now that's a friend!! - Amy K.

i have two decade birthday stories that tie for the kindest thing someone did for me on my birthday.

for my 30th, my husband asked me what i wanted, and i said, "if i tell you, then you can't do it." he persisted and i said i wanted a surprise party. i then proceeded to believe there wasn't going to be one. two friends planned dinner for us and our husbands, and after dinner they sent me outside to get something, and there were 20 people on the deck yelling "surprise!" that was great.

my 40th birthday came just 7 weeks after we'd moved away from friends we'd lived in the same town with for 17 years. my parents flew down and spent my significant birthday with me, taking me and my family out for a nice dinner. that was great, since none of my friends reached out from far away to make the day really special.

Four of my best friends, family, nursing staff and even my m.d. gave me a surprise celebration with cake, balloons, gifts and songs. I don't remember much but I can remember feeling so blessed and happy through that drugged fog. That's the true gift of family and friends. MarilynY

This past birthday, my neighbor knows that I absolutely love love love strawberry's, not sure how she knew but she did and so she brought me strawberries from a local grower, it was a little past strawberry season and they got bad fast, but it was the generous thought that counted. Another one maybe this one doesn't really count but in 2005 my dog had puppies on my birthday and I thought that was pretty exciting! We sold all the puppies and I got to keep one, he is the best dog ever, he shakes you hand and he rides in the back of the truck and when I ride my 4 wheeler he rides with me (I live in the country). Happy Birthday!!! After I turned 40, I decided to start using the number of years I have been married as my age. That makes me 21!

The best thing anyone has done on my birthday is when my husband planed a ski trip for me. It took so much time to plan ahead, and I so appreciated all his effort. Years later he did it again with a trip to San Francisco to see the Lion King.

Happy Birthday! You're just starting to get to the age I was when I began to care less what people thought of me, than I cared what I thought of me. It was the beginning of a good journey that has continued to this day, and will continue until I am no longer here. May these coming years be as fruitful for you as they have been for me.
My husband and kids have always been thoughful about acknowledging my birthday in some special way, but I have a friend who never fails to surprise me and lift my spirits. That's because we aren't terribly close friends, but she always calls me on the day of my birthday. So what, you say? Well, she has been in the early stages of Alzheimers for over 5 years now, and we were much closer 30 to 35 years ago, when I was a young adult renting the basement suite of the home she and her husband and baby son lived in. After I got married and moved 50 miles away, we just didn't see each other as much and as she was ten years older than I was, we grew apart. Nevertheless, every year she called me on my birthday and we'd catch up. This was a kindness I never returned, I'm ashamed to say. I don't even know when her birthday is. But what is really special, is that since she's been in the beginning stages of Alzheimers, diagnosed over 5 years ago when she was still in her 50s, she deliberately wrote down the names of people who were special in her life at some point, and what her relationship has been with them, and she marked their birthdays on the calendar and she calls them on that day. She reads what she's written in her book about each person, to remind herself about who they are and were in her life before she calls them. Now, she no longer remembers my husband or my kids, and she always apologizes for that, but so far, she still remembers me and takes the time, with her husband's help, to write me on the calendar every year and call me. I'm so going to miss that when it doesn't come anymore, because I'll know Christa has gone beyond the early stages of Alzheimers to another place that will be difficult for her and her family.
Not an expensive gift or grand gesture, but one of caring and kindness and selflessness. What more could anyone ask for? I think I'll go make a card for her now.

My birthday is October 19th. Last year my granddaughter, who was six years old, called me very early in the morning and woke me up to tell me how much she loved me. She remembered to do it all on her own. It made my day.

Happy Birthday to you on Monday!

I have had so many wonderful things done for me in my life - both big things and small gestures of kindness -- I am so blessed! One gesture that I especially remember was right after my daughter was born. We had recently moved to a new state and didn't really know people that well. The church was so friendly and brought over all sorts of food. One sweet elderly little lady, who didn't really cook, knocked on my door and had brought me a package of deli ham and some buns. I remember thinking how wonderful that was -- it didn't take any time at all to make up a little sandwich and I didn't have to heat it up, or make more than I needed, or return the dish! And as thankful as I was for all of the other meals, this one really touched my heart! It was so simple and sweet.

Happy 40th! I hope each year you have a new story of the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you on your birthday.

We moved to the US 5 years ago from Canada. I always get homesick on birthdays and Christmas and holidays. When I was growing up I always had a chocolate log cake from a bakery named Genies. It has this awesome cookie crust on the bottom and is just delicious. Two years ago, my husband tried to have one fed-exed down to us. It was hilarious! It got held up over the weekend at customs and when it arrived it was totally smooshed! Needless to say, we didn't actually eat it, but it was the sweetest gesture ever! And to this day, I swear I saw a finger print in what icing was still recognizable! :>

My lovely husband indulges me every year and makes September my birthMONTH. He gets me small gifts throughout the month and then celebrates with a bang on the actual day. Gotta love than man! :o) Happy Birthday!

Happy 40th Silke!

One of the nicest things someone has done for me on my birthday was for my 29th birthday (I won't say how many years ago it was). My sister, who is the ultimate hostess, had the party in her home and invited all of my closests friends. She even did all of the cooking and backing herself!

Happy Birthday, Silke!!

The nicest thing anyone ever did for me for my birthday... well, I was visiting a friend in Portugal during my 18th birthday, and it was the longest I'd been away from home. My friend's Mom made a breakfast for me with all of my favorite foods from my trip so far (even non-breakfast foods!) and then spoiled me all day with a little gift every so often. I will never forget it!

Way to go the BIG 40! On my 30th and my mom's 60th, my brother and father surprised us with an amazing trip to NYC. Five star accommodations, Shows, Food, Elizabeth Arden Day of Beauty even limo service! What an amazing experience!

Happy Birthday!! I'm on the "down" side of the hill going towards 40. I certainly don't feel that "old"!
I think the kindest gesture was on my 26th birthday. My husband was sick with pneumonia, my stepdaughter had chicken pox (and our youngest would get it soon after! LOL) but he still went out to make sure I had a gift, balloon and cake. Although I certainly didn't expect it and scooted him off to bed afterwards, I felt so incredibly special and loved.

Happy Birthday! And thanks for the opportunity remember sweet kindnesses. This may be a little different than you expected but my mother was quite ill for a long time before she passed away. As her death approached , my birthday was drawing nearer and nearer. Each day the nurses would say "She will not make it through the day/night." I prayed and prayed that she would not die on my birthday because I was young and I did not want to always remember such a sad day on my birthday. I think she wanted to be there with me, too. She waited until 2 days past my birthday which moved even into the next month. It was so like her to put the feelings of others before her own.

Happy Birthday! 40 is the new 30, right?? I hope so, 'cause that means I'm still in my 20's!

To be a total downer...I have no fond memories of a special birthday. My husband usually remembers to get me a card, at the last minute, on the way home from work and signs it right before he hands it to me. If I want something special I have to fend for myself. LOL!

Happy 40th to you!! The nicest thing anyone has done for me on a birthday was for my 50th. My nephew and my husband very sneakily arranged to get as many family members and friends to come to Billings to celebrate at a surprise gathering at the country club. They came from as far away as Washington! My husband said he wanted to go practice his golf and asked me to ride along on the cart and then we would have dinner at the club. It was mid April in Montana and still nippy at that time and I about froze to death before he decided it was time to go in to eat. When we walked into the dining room, there were all my family and friends wishing me a happy 50th! Best birthday ever!

Happy Birthday! One of the nicest things someone has done for me was almost 7 yrs. ago. My first baby was born 4wks. before my birthday. It was our first baby, so of course I hadn't been out of the house much, let alone any alone time with DH. My parents came into town just to babysit, so we could go out to dinner for my birhtday.
Have a fabulous 40th! and thanks for the chance to win some awesome blog candy!

Happy Birthday, Silke!!! Oh what I'd do to be 40 again!!! It's a great time of life! Enjoy every minute of it! I think the most special thing anyone ever did for me on my birthday was when I turned 15. It had been a very rough time for my family, and my Mom and Dad had been in a serious accident. Dad had some brain damage, and Mom had broken a hip. My grandfather lived with us at the time as well and was bedridden, so at 14-15 I suddenly had to grow up and care for them all. My Mom unbeknownst to me asked someone from our Church who came to visit to please go buy me a pretty pearl necklace for my birthday, and she did. I fully expected NOTHING due to the situation, but on my birthday, there was a most beautiful package from a very expensive store, and the most gorgeous string of pearls I had ever seen! It seemed so special when I had no idea how my parents could have done anything! It may not sound big now... but to me, it was huge! I still have the pearls and treasure them so much!

Hi Silke,
Happy early birthday to you! It sounds like you'll be having a great day with your daughters! One thing I can think of that was so nice was on my last birthday when my husband let me sleep in and snuck the kids out when they woke up to get me my favorite coffee. When they returned they made my favorite breakfast, choc chip pancakes. It was so nice to sleep in and wake up to that!

Welcome to the 40s club!
There's something about turning of "age" and not having to deal with those trivial things of the younger age.
Remember when 40 seemed like you would be an old lady at that age. Little did we know that life maybe really does start then!

I am not sure what the best thing anyone has ever done for my birthday. I have had surprise parties, happy hours, family dinners and even lonely dinners when I am on the road for work. I do know that the best cake I ever had was an ice cream cake!

Have a great day!

Happy birthday!
The nicest thing someone has done for me on my birthday was this last summer. My new friend and stamping buddy, Janine, had snapped some pictures of my toddler eating an icecream cone. She kept forgetting to email them to me. That was because she made me the most beautiful chipboard album with a summer theme and included those pictures on the first couple of pages. She included lots of room for more pics as well as plenty of journalling tags. I was so surprised, I cried. My DH does spa gifts and the like for me all the time, but no one has ever stayed up so late on so many nights (and she has toddler twins!) just to give me a handmade gift so personal and special. Thanks Janine for such a wonderful gift, and thanks Silke for offering such a beautiful stash of blog candy!

A very Happy Birthday to you Silke! Every year my hubby, my kids, my parents, my siblings all make me feel so special for my birthday - but I guess one b-day that sticks out and was just so sweet was when my husband (then boyfriend) sent me this 'fake' letter that I won a contest to go see the Lion King play and that dinner and a limo would be provided and I could invite whomever I wished. Lucky for my hubby I did chose him (guess I would have spoiled the whole element of surprise if I didn't pick him). I hadn't a clue it was from him, until the day of my b-day :) Very sweet and I still have the letter he wrote me - scrapbooking momento!!

My birthday is Christmas Day and my parents really never made much difference between the two events. So, when I married and my inlaws wrapped my presents in birthday paper instead of Christmas paper, I was touched and thrilled. Silly and such a simple thing, but it meant a lot to me.

My birthday falls around Labor Day each year. This story is from the year I turned 30. We (my boyfriend and I) had family spending Labor Day Weekend with us because we had just moved into a new house together. As far as I knew, they were up for a housewarming party. Well, my boyfriend invited a bunch of my friends and family for a surprise birthday party and then, get this, asked me to marry him. So I had a surprise birthday, housewarming and engagement party for my 30th birthday! It was huge! Thanks so much for asking. I love to tell that story. Thanks also for the chance to win!

Fun topic!
The 40's are very good~
The nicest thing someone has done for me ...
On Friday mornings I drop the kids off at school and go walking with a girlfriend. This birthday Friday, when I got to my friends' house~ there were about 15 of our friends who had gethered for a small surprise party...it was completely unexpected (I was the only one is a sweatsuit) and a wonderful morning.

Happy 40. The 40's are great. I just turned 50 and am hoping they are as good. One of the nicest things someone has done for me on my birthday....When I turned 25 my mom made a quilt for me that I love. It was a copy of an old quilt she had that I really wanted. Of course, I like the one she made just for me better. When I turned 40 my husband surprised me with a tea party. He pretended to be a waiter and served me and my friends tea and scones, etc. He stayed in character the whole time, even carrying a tea towel over his arm. When I turned 50, or 50 days before I turned 50 to be exact I started getting gifts...one for each day until I turned 50. My sister organized my family to come up with the 50 gifts. Some of them where small, some large, some silly, some sentimental. It was very nice and a total surprise.

Hi Silke!

Happy Birthday : )

Thanks for offering some blog candy on YOUR b-day, what a great idea!

My favorite gesture on my birthday was by my mom. I am a student and so I live about 2 hours south of Chicago, where she lives. I asked that my ideal gift would be to spend the day with her for my birthday. She gave me that--and then some! She surprised me by also bringing BOTH of my grandma's along with her! It was a most wonderful surprise and the sweetest of gestures.

Thanks for helping me to remember that incredible moment!

I have had so many wonderous birthday's with so many blessings but the most pleasurable and surprising was when one of my penpals (whom I had never met) sent me a couple of stamps and another sent me a box of Sees chocolates. What a surprise!

Happy Birthday! I remember when my mom turned 40, I tried to throw her a surprise party. But I'm pretty sure she knew all about it.

The nicest thing anyone has ever done for me on my bday? When I turned 18 my nephew asked my mom to take him to the store to buy me a cake and balloons for my birthday. He was 5. I still have my big mylar balloon(minus all the air) in my keepsake box. :)

Happy Birthday! You must be an October girl like me-the best kind too! The nicest thing anyone has done for me? My husband treats me like a princess, I don't have to make dinner(or clean it up), change a diaper, wipe a bum, or lift a finger all day, if I so choose, which I mostly do! He is the sweetest guy ever!

GOsh, it's hard to say! My dear, sweet hubby is wonderful to me on my birthday every year. One year he bought me a Murder Mystery Game. He hates them, but knew how much I enjoyed the first one we played with friends. So, he was willing to play it with me even though he would rather do just about anything!
We have yet to play it, but the thought was so sweet :)

Happy Birthday! Isn't 40 supposed to new 30 =). The nicest thing anyone has ever done on my birthday would have to have been my 16th. My parents, brother and boyfriend (hubby now) all worked their butts off restoring a 1976 Camaro for me! They did almost everything themselves! It came out gorgeous too! The whole time they were working on it (in the garage) they told me it was for my mom, so it was a total surprise!
