Emotional Roller Coaster Ride!!!

Wow - yesterday was just crazy!!! I loved all the cards everyone has made...You all have rocked my day - BIG TIME!!! I'm still trying to catch up with everyone....!!!

Today - is a little different....My dear Rico - our Boxer - who was just 2 month shy of his 14th Birthday - took a tumble for the worse!!!

It kinda started a couple off days ago when we noticed that his fur has change - being flaky and not shiny anymore...he still ate, drank just fine plus he slept a lot anyway. Yesterday he still had breakfast and everything seemed fine until in the later afternoon.....he went outside and was walking around until I saw him collapse - we picked him back up and he was fine....in the evening it happened again and he didn't have the strength anymore to get up - so we knew his time has come.

I was hoping he would peacefully fall a sleep, but his heart was still going strong just his circulate system didn't work anymore. So we rushed him to the vet this morning and he confirmed that the time has come to let Rico go.....We had to put him to sleep!!!

As you can imagen last night and this morning were pretty rough for me/us and I have a very big hole in my heart right now and I don't know if it ever can be filled again!!!

So I was not kidding about the emotional roller coster ride - one day good - one day bad and I know life is full of crazy rides!!! I'll catch you all later.....

~Silke~

I am so sorry that you had to let Rico go. Life has a way of keeping us on our toes. I was so happy to see you as the featured stamper, you are one of my favs...perhaps top 3 even! I hope you and your family find a way to move forward without Rico.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Your post brought tears to my eyes because I lost my boxer two years and I still cry when I talk about him. Our fur babies are just as much a part of our family as the people. One thing that helped me during my grief saw to make a small scrapbook about his life with me. Be extra good to yourself right now.

Oh Silke, I am so sorry. I know how dear Rico was to you all. Please give my condolences to Gerald & the girls as well. I know animals have a way of entering our life through our eyes and becoming a part of our heart. My very deepest sympathy goes out to you tonight. I pray that God will comfort you all.

Praying for you, Julie

I am sorry to hear about your loss. I know all to well the pain that you are going through. Pets become like children to us and the loss is just as great. Three years ago our family lost both of our beloved dogs on the same day-twelve hours apart. It took a long time but the hole in my heart did heal. (Of course, that was only after I got two more dogs!!) I will keep you in my thoughts

Oh Silke, i'm so sorry to hear this. We had a similar situation last year. Those little fur-babies are so special and important to us. I'll be thinking of you.

Isn't it amazing how much our furry friends become more like family than pets? I'm sorry for your loss and wish your heart a speedy recovery....

Many Blessings,

I'm so sorry about your Rico. We had to put our Springer, Kali, down at the end of March and I still miss her! She was 2 weeks shy of being 14 also. I guess it's just the age for them to let us know they need to rest. My thoughts are with you and your family!

I'm so sorry you lost your baby. I feel like my dogs and cat are a part of the family. We have a Black Lab that will be 14 this year. That's really old for the breed. I so dread the day that his time comes. Just remember all the love and joy you shared with Rico. He will always have a place in your heart.

Silke- I came to your blog to say congrats on being the FS. I was cruising your gallery this evening (love it!!)and then I linked to your blog. i am so sorry to hear about Rico! We also have a dog in her 14th year and we were just told a few weeks ago to be prepared because she is in liver failure. We don't know how long she has and like you, I pray that she just goes in her sleep some day. I so feel your pain. I'm sure your girls are so sad too. I'm thinking of you. . .

This is my first visit to your blog. I am so sorry for your loss. I didn't realize until a year ago, just how big a hole a pet leaves behind. My hope for you is that the loss becomes more bearable with time.

I am so sorry, to hear about your loss - beeing an owner of two dogs myself, - growing up with dogs in my live, all the time and seeing them coming and leaving, let me give you the advise, that the wound heals best, by getting a new one rightaway. Love&hugs

I am so very sorry to hear this. It is never easy to say goodbye to such special members of our families. When we lost our dear Ozzie, who was also 14, I found a website that helped tremendously. It's www.in-memory-of-pets.com You can light a candle for your Rico which will burn forever, and also write a tribute to him. Cyber hugs and prayers for all of you!

*hugs* Silke, what a hard day for you and your family. Pets are cherished family members, it's so hard to lose them. The Rainbow Bridge poem has helped me in the past, it's great for kids too. http://www.petloss.com/poems/maingrp/rainbowb.htm Please know I'm thinking of you all the way over here in New Zealand!
